Seminal DFW band, pop poppins, was formed in 1989 in Saginaw, TX. The band grew along with the Deep Ellum scene, where they developed into a regional success. Releasing numerous full-length albums on Carpe Diem and RainMaker Records, they were to remain regional favorites with a strong following in the South, but major label recognition would remain elusive. Their sound combines standard rock and roll with melodic vocals, harmonies reminiscent of 60's pop and adventurous percussion. Pop poppins has always been difficult to categorize at once proving to be their draw and their drawback. So even as grunge was in its heyday, pop poppins was receiving regional airplay and was on regular rotation on DFW alternative radio. After years together, the members eventually moved in different directions (literally, with Michael Jerome moving to LA and Broose moving to New York and now Houston) The band has not officially broken up and there is always the chance that they will all be together in the same city at the same time.
